Lunch and Learn: Meditation for Holiday (and Non-Holiday) Stress

Dec 12, 2018
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Description

Bring your lunch and learn how to give yourself a well-deserved break and get acquainted with techniques that have been research-proven to be effective in dealing with stress.

Mindfulness is a way of paying attention to your life that—over time—can decrease stress, increase focus, and bring you into greater awareness of your experience. That may sound impossible given our hectic lives, but research has clearly shown that there are tangible benefits. With practice, we can begin to recognize our habitual reactive patterns, and we can begin to respond with greater wisdom to our internal and external stressors—something that can come in really handy during the holidays!

Dr. Jonathan Walker is a local physician and clinical faculty member at the medical school. He has been practicing meditation for several years and has done mindfulness teaching at Lutheran Hospital, Park Center and Parkview Behavioral Health among others. He has trained at the Mindful Awareness Research Center at UCLA and is a member of the International Mindfulness Teacher’s Association and the American Mindfulness Research Association.
